Pilica, Silesian Voivodeship

Pilicą [ p ʲ iliʦa ] ( German: Pilitza, older even pills ) is a city on the Pilicą with about 2,000 inhabitants in Poland. It is located 21 kilometers east of the county town Zawiercie on the edge of limestone area of the high Jura and the granite rock of the Eagles' Nests. Pilicą belongs to the powiat zawierciański, Silesian Voivodeship and is the seat of the homonymous urban and rural community.

History

The first mention of Pilicą dates from the year 1228. 1398 were awarded their municipal rights as a private town.

In 1795 the city became part of Austria. Between 1807 and 1815 Pilicą belonged to the Duchy of Warsaw and in 1808 raised to the county seat. After 1815 Pilicą was part of Congress Poland. 1830, the powiat Pilicą was abolished and in 1869 Pilicą lost its city charter.

Since 1994 Pilicą is a city again.
