Pinova

Intersection of ' Clivia ' × 'Golden Delicious'

Pinova (also pinata, Sonata or Corail ) is a type of apple, which originated from the cross of Golden Delicious and Clivia. Clivia in turn is a cross between a privy councilor Dr. Oldenburg and Cox Orange.

In the Rhineland was Pinova apple of the Year in 1998 and 2001.

Fruit

The fruit is small to medium in size. The basic color is yellow, the body color is a bright orange-red and is only formed during the ripening process increasingly out.

The large-cell flesh is firm, juicy, sweet-sour, spicy and aromatic. The variety gives very good eating apples, which are also suitable for cooking and baking.

Tree

The tree grows weak. The tree branches evenly and forms readily fruit wood. It is profitable.

Cultivation

Pinova prefers sunny, warm temperatures, but no wine-growing climate. Since Pinova has a very strong fruit set, must be a chemical, mechanical or manual thinning.

Flowering starts in mid-April and lasts almost until mid-May. When storing the variety high losses may occur due to Gloeosporium rot. Likewise Pinova is prone to mildew.

The picking time at Pinova is early to mid-October reached in November then the apple is ripe enough to eat and can be stored refrigerated about to March, in CA storage also to May.

Mutants

A much stronger and flat red ausfärbende mutant of Pinova is Evelina or RoHo 3615 ( Red Hofmann ), which was found by the plant Hofmann GmbH in Langensendelbach. It is marketed under the name Evelina as a club places through the Brandenburg fruit trade. Other common mutants are developed in France Dalinip and Dalirail.
