The dwarf pine ( Pinus pumila ), also called Japanese dwarf pine, is a species of the genus of pine (Pinus ).
The natural range of the dwarf pine extends from northeastern Siberia, Kamchatka to Japan.
Description
The dwarf - pine grows shrub-like and only reaches stature heights of 1 to 3, rarely up to 5 meters. The 4-6 cm long needles are five of us in short shoots. The pegs are 2.5 to 4.5 cm long and contain large, nut -like, wingless seeds.
Bastard
In the mountains of northern Japan Pinus pumila hybridized with occasional Pinus parviflora; these natural hybrids Pinus × hakkodensis are larger than P. pumila; they can reach heights of growth of up to 8 to 10 meters.
