Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer

Pirmin Stekeler - Weithofer ( born December 21, 1952 in Meßkirch ) is a German philosopher and professor at the University of Leipzig.

Life

Stekeler - Weithofer studied mathematics, theoretical linguistics and philosophy in Konstanz, Berlin, Prague and Berkeley. He currently teaches Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Leipzig. In Meiner Verlag he gave from 1996 to 2006, the biannual magazine dialectic out ( first published in 2007 under the title Journal of Philosophy of Culture ). Since 2003 he has also worked for the Philosophical Yearbook (published by Karl Alber ) as editor. From 2006 to 2008 he was president of the International Ludwig Wittgenstein Society. Since 1998 he has been a full member since 2008 and president of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig.

Stekeler wide Hofer's work focuses on questions the philosophy of language, action theory and philosophy of logic dar. In addition, he is interested, the relationship between traditional (Plato, Kant, Hegel) and analytic philosophy ( Frege, Wittgenstein, Carnap, Quine ). Pirmin Stekeler - Weithofer is one of the most important German Hegelians of the present. Special attention awakened his language-analytical interpretation of Hegel's Science of Logic.

Opposite Views of Analytic Philosophy, he keeps the language of Hegel, Nietzsche and Heidegger interpreted philosophically meaningful. He turns as Friedrich Kambartel against a purely formal sense.

Hegel's master-slave chapter is understood by Stekeler - Next Hofer as a critique of the Socratic- Platonic metaphor of the soul as ruler of the body. Stekeler - Weithofer shows a path of personal self- consciousness on, rather than social theory lift to a struggle for recognition: It differs in a reading of Plato between a psyche as the bearer of reputation and honor, and our death has on hand and an active Arete person ( virtue ), in which we act independently of any foreign praise or blame conscientious self-validating. Care is taken that the soul is not ontologically misunderstood as real existence of a spiritual being called ' soul '.
