Planet Waves is the 14th studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, which was first published in January 1974 on Asylum Records. When Dylan However, in the same year moved to Columbia Records again, took over this label in the future release of Planet Waves. It was produced by Rob Fraboni.

On the album Planet Waves Dylan performs with The Band as backing band. It was the first of three albums that Dylan recorded with The Band and released. That same year, followed by the live album Before the Flood, 1975 those recordings were officially released, the Dylan after his motorcycle accident in 1967 recorded with the band. They carried the title The Basement Tapes.

The album was a success and was Dylan's first number - one album in the United States. The reviews were good, though not enthusiastically. After weak predecessor works such as Self Portrait and Dylan Planet Waves but had again refreshing and strong. It contained with Forever Young a song that was later covered by many famous musicians, such as Joan Baez, The Band or the Grateful Dead. Dylan on Planet Waves published two versions of the piece; a slow ballad and a faster version. The slower eventually became the more well-known.

Originally, the album Ceremonies of the Horseman could mean, for a line in his 1965 song Love Minus Zero / No Limit. When Dylan changed the title overnight to Planet Waves, the album's release was delayed by two weeks.

The music magazine Rolling Stone gave Planet Waves three out of five stars. Allmusic rated the album 3.5 out of 5 stars.
