Playboating

The Playboating (English), German game boating, canoe Rodeo, is a young discipline of canoeing. The competition format of Playboating called Freestyle. This kayaker surfs on an artificial or natural shaft or roller and moved in advanced skills, his boat - kayak or Canadian - in different figures.

The practice of the sport on a single shaft or roller and the exit of the water at the entry point are referred to as " park and play" in the jargon paddlers. Alternatively river sections are gone down, they " go " shafts and rollers used for canoe rodeo.

Canoe Rodeo is exerted mainly on rivers with rollers and standing waves. Also possible is the use of waves on the sea or in estuaries that come about in the surf or as a result of tidal currents. Increasingly also artificial (eg Augsburg ice channel ) or treated waters are used.

History

By 1970, went out of the canoe slalom the Squirtboating out, a form of Wildwasserpaddelns in the water currents in shorter, very light boats with low air volume for figures: be used (English moves ).

In the 1980s, the canoe rodeo developed. About the time the boats were it even shorter, but their buoyancy and robustness were compared with the Squirtboating increases again in order to enter even more difficult whitewater can. Some figures of Squirtboating, especially the Mystery move, disappear completely in the boat and paddler under the ( relatively flat ) surface of the water, which makes them not possible for playboating. Other characters like the candle (see below) were taken directly and belong here, together with resulting in the canoe rodeo figures to the standard repertoire.

Jan Kellner, Olli Grau and other paddlers made the sport known and popular with younger paddlers in Germany.

In the nineties, the first, not even by the International Canoe Federation (ICF ) -oriented world championships were held, which were initially dominated by German drivers. The sport took a very dynamic development, which was sponsored by the boat manufacturer, the boat brought new generations on the market at a distance, sometimes in just a few months. As part of an internationally growing professionalization of the German Freestyle lost some connection to the top. 2005 in Sydney for the first time a German athlete became world champion for years with Jutta Kaiser again.

Meanwhile Freestyle is officially represented as a special interest in the ICF and the German Canoe Association. In 2006, the discipline of the ICF was taken as a competitive discipline.

International best known are the canoeists Corran Addison and Eric Jackson.

Boats

At the beginning of the boats were still about 3 feet long, built symmetrically and heavy. Very soon was experimenting with new, especially shorter forms. Meanwhile, the limit of the size has been reached: The shortest boats are only 1.75 m long with a volume of approximately 200 l Shorter boats with less volume too little space for the legs and / or too little buoyancy would offer. Previously, the boats round in cross section, a modern kayak for Playboaten nowadays focuses more or less flat bottom, extreme edges of the lower hull, and most of volume around the middle.

Usual boat classes ( A - ) kayak ( K-1, mostly in the classes men, women, juniors), One - Canadian ( C-1) and Open Canoe (OC ).

Figures

The first figure in the Playboaten was the Candle '. They drove to the bow or stern of the boat against the flow direction in a roll, and the pressure of the water on the end straightened the boat more or less perpendicular to. Jan Kellner built this for, Retendo ' from. Here, the paddler rolls over for the candle and end up back in the roll. He turns with a paddle the boat movement around the longitudinal axis and lands upright.

Due to the lighter material and the sophisticated paddling technique (including the edges) figures are now possible in which paddlers and boat are completely in the air ( " Aerials " or also called "Air Moves" ) and simultaneously rotate around several axes.

Freestyle

Canoe Freestyle is the competition format of playboating. An evaluation system has not yet achieved, but there are some principles. For each 180 ° rotation, there were points, for example, at a flat rotation a, rotation at a high (over 45 ° ), two, and four vertically. In addition, an assessment of the style. In the variation evaluation include various figures ( Moves ), among others: Blunt, Cartwheel, Kickflip (or California roll), Loop, Pan Am, Pirouette, Shuvit, Spin, Split Wheel and Surf. Since 2005 rate at official freestyle competitions three to four referees only the variation. The paddlers show as many different tricks.
