Plouigneau

Plouigneau ( Breton Plouigno ) is a municipality with 4799 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Finistère department in Brittany in France. Plouigneau is the capital of the eponymous canton with seven churches.

History

The name of the village is made up of the Breton term for community Plou and the name of Sant Igno. The St. Ignatius was a monk from Cornwall, who came across the English Channel in the 6th century to proselytize to Brittany.
