Plundered Hearts

Plundered Hearts (English for Plundered Hearts) is a text adventure from Infocom from the year 1987.

Action

The player assumes the role of a young lady in London of the late 17th century. This receives a letter from Jean Lafond, Governor of the fictional Caribbean island of St. Sinistra. Lafond informs her that her father located on St. Sinistra and was seriously ill, and it was his recovery process conducive when his daughter was with him. Conveniently, he has her a ship, the Lafond Deux sent, which will bring them to the Caribbean. Even before arriving in St. Sinistra the Lafond Deux is attacked by pirates and the young lady of pirate captain Nicholas Jamison kidnapped. First, the protagonist is still torn between Lafond and Jamison, later Lafond is out but as a villain. The aim of the game is to thwart the plans of Lafond, thus enabling a bright future on the side of Jamison.

Gameplay and technology

Plundered Hearts is a text adventure, that is, there is no graphic elements. Environment and events are made and the actions of the player entered as on-screen text also as text using the keyboard. The parser of Plundered Hearts includes a vocabulary of 816 words; the game includes a total of 57 rooms.

As side dishes ( " Feelies " ) Plundered Hearts contained a bag in fine velvet look, in which were a 50 -guinea banknotes in the fictional State St. Sinistra and the letter from Jean Lafond to the protagonist. These supplements are referenced in the game and make thus represents a copy

Reception

Plundered Hearts plays in the genre of romance novels. According to the events and locations are cliched in the game. Contemporary reviews noted positively that an Adventure was written by a woman for the first time and at the same time has a female character. Praise was also the subject of appropriate writing style. Were noted negative the genre conditional logic gaps, the simplicity of the game and the enormous collection of clichés.
