P&O Cruises Australia

P & O Cruises Australia ( short: P & O Australia) is a trademark of the British-American cruise operator Carnival Corporation & plc for the Australian market. The trademark is the logo P & O, based on the former Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. Since the 75 - year anniversary of the first P & O Cruises in Australia, also the painting of ships in their classic white was changed.

Owners and operators of vessels used for the brand is the British Carnival UK. Therefore, the ships of the fleet sailing under the British flag with an official home port of London. However, frequent departure ports in the Pacific Dawn, Pacific Jewel and the Pearl of the Pacific are Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland.

History

The roots of the Australian cruise story are actually less at P & O as in Italy founded by the shipowner family Vlasov Sitmar Cruises ( Società Italiana Trasporti Marittimi ). Their converted for passengers cargo ship Fairsky and former troop ship Fairstar, which then were the first for the crossing of numerous emigrants later than cruise ships in operation, ensured a high level of awareness of the Italian company. Was taken as Sitmar in 1988 by P & O, the name was changed to the Australian community on P & O Sitmar Cruises Ltd.. , While the name Sitmar immediately disappeared in Europe. Only in 1995 the decision was made in Australia in a change to P & O Holidays Ltd. and finally in 2001 to P & O Cruises Australia Ltd. .. In 2011, the company was dissolved. Today only the brand name.

The former Fairsky who had been transferred from P & O initially to its subsidiary Princess Cruises as Sky Princess, returned back to Australia in 2001 and was used for P & O Holidays under a new name as Pacific Sky until 2006. Then it was sold to Pullmantur Cruises. In 2004 came the Pacific Sun to P & O Australia, which was built in 1986 for Carnival Cruise Lines and was replaced on the American market competitive by a younger ship.

It was followed by the Pacific Star in 2005 until it was sold to Pullmantur Cruises in March 2008, where she since May 2008 as the Ocean Dream is after conversion into service.

In October 2007 came as meanwhile the oldest ship of Princess Cruises, the Regal Princess to P & O Australia. After a one-month renovation it was put into service as the Pacific Dawn. On 30 October 2008 Carnival Corporation & plc announced that they will give up the Ocean Village brand. The two ships of the Ocean Village were also subsequently moved to Australia and delivered to P & O Cruises Australia. The Ocean Village Two runs since December 2009 as Pacific Jewel, the Ocean Village followed her end of 2010 as Pacific Pearl.

The Pacific Dawn and Pacific Jewel are identical sister ships, which were formerly given by Sitmar at the Fincantieri shipyard in order.
