Wall lizard ( Podarcis muralis )

Wall lizard ( Podarcis: ποδάρκης of " swift-footed " ) are among the rights lizards ( Lacertidae ). They resemble members of the genus Lacerta, to which they were counted until the 1970s.

Dissemination

The species live around the Mediterranean and in the Middle East. The wall lizard ( Podarcis muralis ) is also found in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Some species are in certain Mediterranean islands endemic (about P. or P. filfolensis lilfordi ) and have a correspondingly very small area of ​​distribution.

Features

Lizards of the genus Lacerta lizards similar to the strong, but differ from them by the construction of her skull, the hemipenis and by the processes of the caudal vertebrae. They are small to medium-sized lizards that are usually brownish or greenish. The drawing of the female consists mainly of bright, rare from the dark side stripes, while it is replaced by a pattern of dots and spots in the males.
