Podbranč

Podbranč ( Podbrantsch German, Hungarian Berencsváralja ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 614 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Senica, a part of the Region Trnavský.

Geography

The municipality is located in the western part of the hill country Myjavská pahorkatina near the Myjava and is composed of various settlements and wastelands. The municipal area is hilly with altitudes ranging from 240 m nm N.M. to 473 m and covered by brown forest soils and rendzina. The center is located at an altitude of 390 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Senica and 14 kilometers away from Myjava.

Neighboring municipalities are Sobotište the west and north, Myjava in the east, in the southeast Bukovec, Prietrž to the south and a short piece of Senica (via the district Kunov ) in the southwest.

Administratively divided the community into the following parts of communes: Horna Dolina, Majeríčky, Podbranč, Podzámok and Švrčkov Jarok.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1297 as Berench in writing and for a long time for the manor castle Branč. 1828 were counted 152 houses and 1,043 inhabitants, who were employed in agriculture and livestock.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Neutra place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Podbranč 615 inhabitants, of whom 602 Slovaks, Czechs and Moravians two. Ten residents did not know. 438 inhabitants is known for the Evangelical Church AB, 39 inhabitants to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and two residents of the United Methodist Church. 104 inhabitants were non-denominational and 29 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
