The Pohang class ( 포항급, Pohang GEUP, Hanja浦项 级), also referred to as HDC 1200 KCX, is a class of twenty-four corvettes for the South Korean Navy.

History

The Pohang - class was built between 1984 and 1993 four different shipyards in South Korea. The type of the ship ROKS Pohang (PCC -756 ) was placed in December 1984 commissioned and handed over the last ship of the class, ROKS Kongju (PCC -758 ), was established in July 1993, the South Korean Navy.

The purpose of the class is in the coastal defense against submarines, aircraft and ships. Therefore, the identification stirred as PCC which stands for Patrol Combat Corvette.

After the loss of ROKS Cheonan (PCC -772 ) and the decommissioning of two ships are currently 21 units on active duty. The Pohang class should, as well as the Ulsan - class frigates will be replaced by the Incheon class.
