Policosanol is a compound obtained from sugar cane or sugar cane wax mixture eight long-chain aliphatic alcohols. Partial Policosanol is also obtained from wheat germ or rice. Policosanol to lower blood lipid levels and is present in food supplements.

Composition

Health-related use

Policosanol appears to inhibit cholesterol synthesis. An effect on blood lipid levels is controversial.
