Polina Astakhova

Polina Astachowa (Ukrainian Поліна Астахова, often in the form of Russian Полина Григорьевна Астахова / Polina Grigoryevna Astachowa; born October 30, 1936 in Zaporizhia, † August 5, 2005 in Kiev, Ukraine) was a Soviet gymnast.

Astachowa won at the Olympic Games in 1956, 1960 and 1964 respectively, the gold medal with the Soviet team in 1960 and 1964 gold on the uneven bars.

Subsequently, she was a trainer and led at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, the Soviet team to win the title. In 2002, she was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Astachowa lived in her last years withdrawn in Kiev, suffered from severe asthma and died at the age of 68 years.
