Polish Crown Jewels

The Polish crown jewels were the insignia of the Kingdom of Poland.

From the time of the Piast dynasty in the Middle Ages, only the coronation sword Szczerbiec has been preserved. It shall be kept with the other Crown Jewels produced later in Wawel Castle in Krakow.

In the reign of the Jagiellonian and the Wasakönige in Poland other insignia were made, among others, the "Hungarian Crown" and the "Swedish " Crown from the 16th century, however, were lost or destroyed. Get remained the Płock Diadem. Among the rulers of the Saxon Wettin dynasty from Dresden Augustus II the crown and the crown of Augustus III emerged.

After the third partition of Poland were part of the Polish Crown Jewels, which existed at that time, to Prussia, where they 1809 under the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. were melted and destroyed.
