The parliamentary elections in Poland in 1997 was held on 25 September 1997. In selecting the members of the Polish Parliament were re- determined in both chambers ( Sejm and Senate).
Electoral system
The Sejm is elected by proportional representation and the Senate by relative majority vote. There was a minimum threshold of 5 % and party alliances to 8%. The legislature was 4 years for both chambers of parliament.

Election result
The Electoral Action Solidarity (AWS ) won from the state 33.83 % of the votes and thus won the most seats in the Sejm, she was the clear winner of the election. A significant increase in votes was able to record the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). It also attracted elected into parliament: The Freedom Union (UW ) and the Movement for the Reconstruction of Poland ( ROP). Significant loss of votes had the Polish People's Party (PSL ) accept it reached only 7.31% in contrast to the last election, where they could still get 15.40%. The Union of Labour (UP) only reached 4.74% and managed to not be the re- entry into parliament.
