The polui (Russian Полуй; well Bolshoi polui, so Big polui ) is a 369 km long ( with source river Gluboki polui 635 km ) right tributary of the Ob in the West Siberian Plain in Russia.

Course

The polui created on 21 m height in the northwestern part of the West Siberian lowlands from the headwaters Gluboki polui ( Deep polui ) from the left and Sukhoi polui ( Dry polui ) from the right. Both source rivers have their sources in the watershed area of the Siberian land back ( Sibirskije Uwaly ) in 110 to 120 meters above sea level, near the border with the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District / Ugra. The upper polui and its source rivers run initially in predominantly northerly direction, the extended source flux Gluboki polui to several tens of kilometers in the east. After confluence, the polui gradually moved in a northwesterly and then westerly direction. In its broad, marshy lakes and rich valley of the river along the entire length meanders strong. In the entire run, the left bank is flat, while the right, northern flank of the flood plain rises relatively steeply to about 100 m altitude. About 20 km upstream of the mouth flows through the polui depending on the water level up to 40 km ² lake Bolshoi ( Big ) Poluiski Sor. He finally opens directly in the city Salechard at 2 m height in a right arm of here already more than two kilometers wide Ob.

At its entire length of polui flows through the territory of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

The most important tributaries of the actual polui are Chadyjacha and Tanoptscha of right and Njakchoba, Jepsedei Bolshoi ( Big Jepsedei ) and Tjonjaju from the left. In the laminar flow Gluboki polui the Kedrowaja, in the Sukhoi polui the Bolshoi ( Big ) Chuljumjogan and the Bolshoi opens ( Large ) Sandibei, all right.

Hydrographic

The catchment area of 21,000 km ² comprises polui. In estuaries near the river reaches a width of about 300 m at a depth of up to 8 m; the flow rate is in this case 0.6 m / s

The polui freezes October to May. The water flow in estuary near is the annual average about 170 m³ / s, on the middle reaches 189 km above the mouth still 132 m³ / s. At a minimum of 32.3 m³ / s in March and a maximum of 461 m³ / s in June

Infrastructure and economy

The river is navigable for 202 km (above the settlement polui to mouth ).

The -carrying area is inhabited overall very thin. Besides the city Salechard at the river mouth is only available from the middle reaches down some small settlements. The natural gas and oil production areas of the Autonomous Okrug have not yet extended into the catchment area of polui; here only extend various pipelines, so by the headwaters of the Sukhoi polui (of the eligible regions between Nadym and Novy Urengoy towards the Urals ).

The right bank of the middle and lower reaches of the polui follows at different distances, some in close proximity to over 200 kilometers of river the route of the built under Stalin Arctic Circle Railway. This section of the course was one of those taken regularly for a short time in operation. Following closure in 1955 and the task of a parallel telephone line in 1976 are now only remains of the range available. A restoration of the route, however, is regularly in conversation. Section follows the way due to lack of bridges passable in winter only car slopes of Salechard to Nadym the railway line.
