The company was involved in the establishment of major audio formats. In October 2001, Polycom acquired PictureTel Corporation to, from which it took over the rights to the Siren - format family. As part of the Study Group 16 of ITU- T Polycom has been involved in the standardization of the method based on G.722.1 and G.719 Siren.
