The Pomahaka River is a river in South Otago on the South Island of New Zealand. He is a right tributary of the Clutha River, flowing from the Old Man Range 80 km to the south to in Pukeawa, 20 km north-west of Balclutha, to open into the Clutha. On his way he passed through the Blue Mountains and the Forest City Tapanui in the area designated by the residents as West Otago.

For a short stretch of the river forms the border between the regions of Otago and Southland.

A heavy flood of Pomahaka damage caused in 1978, which led to the closure of the Tapanui Branch railway. Another heavy floods led to the 1980 relocation of the place Kelso.

Places the river are Kelso, Tapanui, Glenkenich, Pomahaka and Rankleburn.

A right tributary is the Wairuna Stream, left tributaries are Rankle Burn, back stream and Washpool stream.
