Pope Felix IV

Felix III. (* In Samnium; † 530 ) was from 526 until his death bishop of Rome. His name means " The Lucky".

In another count, which recognizes Pope Felix II as the rightful pope, he appears as Felix IV Consequently, Felix III. sometimes referred to as " Felix III. ( IV ) "and" Felix IV (III ) ", respectively.

Felix came from Samnium, where he was born as the son of a certain Castorius. After the death of Pope John I, who had been imprisoned by the King of the Ostrogoths, Theodoric, he was elected after a see is vacant, two months on July 12. Theodoric had supported his election; this will have been a reason that Felix behaved ostgotenfreundlich.

Felix condemned semi-Pelagianism and received by the Synod of Orange 529, the confirmation of his attitude.

Felix tried to designate his own successor - but Boniface II This drew a reaction of the Senate after themselves, which forbade the discussion of the successor of the incumbent during his lifetime, as well as the acceptance of such nomination.

The majority of the clergy chose after Felix's death Dioscorus, while a minority favored Boniface II. The schism was ended by the imminent death of Dioscorus.

Bid Catholic feast day is October 12.
