PopTop Software

PopTop Software was a computer game developer based in Fenton in St. Louis, Missouri.

The company was founded by Phil Steinmeyer 1993. Became famous for it through the 1998's economic simulation Railroad Tycoon II, the successor of the current as a classic game Sid Meier 's Railroad Tycoon ( 1990). In July 2000, PopTop Software was bought along with the previous publisher Gathering of Developers, by Take 2 Interactive.

With the satirical economic simulation Tropico, the company landed a surprise hit in 2001. However, the development of the successor Tropico 2 took Frog City Software, as PopTop focused upon the third part of the Railroad Tycoon series; Railroad Tycoon 3 was released in 2003. With the turn-based strategy game Shattered Union published the Studio 2005 his last game. Early May 2006 it was announced that PopTop Software is merged with the also belongs to Take 2 Interactive developer studio Firaxis.
