Popular Movement

The People's Movement ( mazirisch: ⴰ ⵍ ⵃ ⴰ ⵔ ⴰ ⴽ ⴰ ⴰ ⵛ ⵛ ⴰ ⵄ ⴱ ⵉ ⵢ ⴰ, Arabic الحركة الشعبية, French Mouvement populaire ) is a royalist party in Morocco.

It was founded in 1957 by the Berber tribal leaders Mahjoubi Aherdane using Abdelkrim al -Khatib, who later even a splinter party ( Mouvement populaire démocratique et constitutionnel ) founded, which became the Party for Justice and Development ( PJD ). The popular movement was a rural, conservative and tribal- oriented party that unconditionally supported the monarchy and tried to weaken the nationalist Istiqlal party at its inception. Although the party is mainly selected from Tamazight ( " Berber " ) speakers, it has not developed explicit Berber programmatic.

The current party is since 25 March 2006, the main party, which retained its name, and two merged in the popular movement splinter parties, the National Movement ( Mouvement National Populaire, Alharaka alwatania ashaabia ) and the Democratic Union ( Union démocratique ).

The party is a full member of Liberal International, to which she joined at their congress in Dakar 2003. Your choice of symbol is a dagger.

At meetings held on 27 September 2002 parliamentary elections the party for 27 of the 325 seats won in the representative assembly. They improved their stand at the next general election, held on 7 September 2007 by won 41 of 325 seats. In the 2011 general election she fell back to 7.5 % of the vote and 32 of 395 seats now.
