Port Perry

Port Perry is a place in the Durham Region, in the Canadian province of Ontario. The village is located southeast of Uxbridge and southwest of Peterborough. Port Perry is located about an hour away north-east of Toronto. In 2010, the population was 9500.

History

The first settlers were, inter alia, Reuben Crandell and came predominantly from the UK. An English Loyalist which built a house with his wife on the ground in May 1821. The listed building can be visited. It is located on King Street between Prince Albert and Manchester. In November 1821 Lucy Ann Crandell gave birth to her first child, from European descent on Canadian soil. In 1831 Reuben Crandell and his family moved to another house which under the name Crandell 's Corners (also Borelia later) is known.

A group of business people planning to join the community on a rail network in 1867, so Port Whitby and Port Perry can be reached by train. The first train reached Port Perry in 1872.
