Portuguese presidential election, 1976
The presidential election in Portugal 1976 was held on 27 June 1976. She was the first Head of State after the Carnation Revolution of 25 April 1974.
To go directly stood General António Ramalho Eanes (independent, but with the support of the parties of the moderate left and the right center parties ), Otelo Saraiva de Carvalho (independent, former head of military authority COPCON ), Pinheiro de Azevedo (non-party, former Prime Minister ) and Pato (supported by the PCP).
Ramalho Eanes was previously head of a unit that has a left-wing group in the MFA deposed on November 25, 1975, which had been collected primarily to the Otelo Saraiva de Carvalho captain in the year. He won the election with over 60 percent of the valid votes, scoring in all districts ( with the exception of the district of Setúbal) and in the two autonomous regions, the majority of votes.
