Posidonius (crater)

Posidonius is an impact crater on the moon northeastern front at the edge of Mare Serenitatis. South-east of it lies the slightly smaller crater Chacornac, in the north of Lacus Somniorum and the crater Daniell.

The rim is irregular and grooved, the interior is flooded by lavas of Mare Serenitatis and has a system of grooves structures that Rimae Posidonius.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek philosopher Posidonius.
