Povl Ahm

Ahm CBE FICE FREng povl (born 26 September 1926 in Aarhus, † 15 May 2005) was an eminent structural engineer and former chairman of Ove Arup & Partners.

Life

Ahm studied at the Polyteknisk Læreanstalt in Copenhagen, where he graduated in 1949.

In 1952 he started at Ove Arup and Partners in London, where he worked at the Coventry Cathedral by Basil Spence and Ove Arup.

Ahm was also involved in early drafts of the Sydney Opera House and also worked in other prestigious projects such as the listed poultry market hall in Smithfield ( London) or the Centre Pompidou. 1957 Ahm partakers of the Arup Group Limited 1965 Partner and 1977 one of the directors; 1989-1992 Chairman of the company. From 1992 to 1996 he was president of the Association of Consulting Engineers.
