Pöyry

Pöyry is a global, Finnish service companies. Pöyry provides strategic, technical and organizational consulting, planning, engineering, project management and operational support for a wide range of industries.

It is named after the Finnish Industrial Jaakko Pöyry, who founded the company in 1958. Global headquarters are in the Finnish city of Vantaa in the Helsinki region; next maintains Pöyry fixed operations in about 20 other countries. Worldwide, about 7,000 people are employed by Pöyry. In 2011 the company, which is on the Helsinki Stock Exchange ( OMX ) stock exchanges under the symbol POY1V generated a turnover of 796 million euros.

History

The company was founded in 1958 by Jaakko Pöyry Veikko Emanuel ( 1924-2006 ) founded to create the technical basis for planning a sulfate pulp mill in Äänekoski. In the following years the Jaakko Pöyry Oyj has grown to become a renowned planner for the forestry, pulp and paper industry in Finland, Sweden and other Nordic countries.

By the time Pöyry expanded its areas of activity from other industries and continents, focusing stayed in the basic materials, basic utilities and infrastructure sector. Decisive steps of this expansion were the acquisitions of companies Soil & Water and Ekono Energy in 1993 and the technical planning of the electrical watt end of the 1990s.

Especially since the turn of the millennium Pöyry has its expertise and its international presence through the acquisition of a large number of smaller planning agencies increased further in all parts of the world and is represented in about 50 countries.

In 2006, the Jaakko Pöyry Oyj was renamed and since then is called only Pöyry Oyj.
