Prachuap Khiri Khan ( in Thai: ประจวบคีรีขันธ์ ) is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan Prachuap Khiri Khan. The Prachuap Khiri Khan Province lies in the southwest of the central region of Thailand.

Geography

Prachuap Khiri Khan is located on the Gulf of Thailand about 280 kilometers southwest of the capital, Bangkok.

Just south of the city is situated between the Gulf Coast and Burma the narrowest part of the national territory, this is only 13 kilometers wide.

Economic importance and

The main economic activities are agriculture with fruit growing ( pineapple), coconut trees, and fishing.

History

During the Second World War the town made ​​headlines when the Japanese invaded in Thailand December 8, 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In Prachuap Khiri Khan they put troops ashore, but to conquer when trying the local base of the Royal Thai Air Force, met with fierce resistance. Only upon receipt of a direct instruction from their government, the Thai troops gave the next day on the resistance. Every year there was a big show for the occasion.

  • Wat Khao Tham Khan Kradai ( วัด เขา ถ้ำ คั่น กระได ) - cave temple, on a barrier island accessible by boat.
