Pratap Chitnis, Baron Chitnis

Pratap Chidamber Chitnis, Baron Chitnis ( born May 1, 1936 in Birmingham, † July 12, 2013 ) was a British politician and life peer.

Life and career

Chitnis was born on 1 May 1936 as a son of Chidamber N. Chitnis and Lucia Mallik. His family supported the Liberals. 1958 Pratap himself stood in the Liberal Party. He attended Stonyhurst College. Later he studied at the University of Birmingham, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, and at the University of Kansas, where he graduated with a Master of Arts.

He was from 1958 to 1959 worked as the Administrative Assistant to the National Coal Board. In 1959 he stood as a candidate for the St Marylebone Borough Council, but was not elected. In 1960 he became head ( Head ) of the newly established Local Government Department of the Liberal Party organization. He was campaign manager of his party for election in 1962 in Orpington. This was a success for the party with the election of Eric Lubbock. From 1964 to 1966, Chitnis press officer and then to 1969 head ( Head ) of the Liberal Party organization. From 1970 to 1977 he was a member of the Community Relations Commission. Chitnis is the author of several separate reports on the elections in Zimbabwe in 1979 and 1980, Guyana 1980 ( with Lubbock ), El Salvador in 1982, 1984 and 1988; and Nicaragua in 1984., where he was as an official representative of David Steel. He remarked that the election was not perfect, but better than before in El Salvador.

In 1985 he visited the border of Honduras and El Salvador to investigate a murder case, but could not go to the scene and returned to London.

Membership in the House of Lords

Chitnis was appointed on July 18, 1977 Life peer as Baron Chitnis, of Rydale in the County of North Yorkshire. His maiden speech in the House of Lords he held on 9 November 1977., Where he sat as a cross Bencher.

In the 1970s, he spoke on the topics of military aid for El Salvador, the new constitution for Zimbabwe - Rhodesia and the local elections, as well as the Indonesian invasion of East Timor and immigration issues. In the 1980s, he enlisted in the mining industry in Bolivia, the diplomatic representative office in Nicaragua, British military aid to Belize, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Honduras, as well as an exchange of letters between the Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega. Family

Since 1964, Chitnis by Anne Brand, the daughter of Frank Mansell fire was married. They had a son, who is deceased.
