Pratval is a municipality in the district Domleschg in the district of Rhein Behind the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Geography

The community is located east of Hinterrheins on a plateau and consists of the local village along the main road, castle Rietberg and small Rietberg. Of the total municipal area of ​​80 ha 44 ha are used for agriculture. Another 21 hectares are covered by forest and woodland, and the rest of 14 ha settlement area.

The municipal area of Pratval is the Rietberg Castle and the ruins of the castle Hasensprung.

Population

Languages

The original language of the community was Sutselvisch, a Grison Romanesque dialect, but in 1890 this already lost the majority. While in 1880 65 % were Roman speaking, it was 43% in 1900 and 1910, yet merely 19%. Today, dominated German and Romansh is hardly significant. Only 8 % of the population and the authorities understand Romansh language is German.

Origin and nationality

From the end of 2005 250 inhabitants were 243 Swiss nationals.
