Preis von Europa
The price of Europe ( or Europe price) is a German horse race for three year old and older thoroughbreds. It will be held at the racecourse Weidenpesch, Cologne since 1963 over a distance of 2400 meters in September every year. In the German race calendar, the price of Europe replaced the once great gladiator race over a distance of 2800 meters, but its importance as all long- distance races during the 20th century increasingly declined.
Since 1972 the price of Europe is run as a Group 1 race. It has long been the most lucrative horse race in Germany. Meanwhile, it is worth only € 155,000.
The Russian wonder horse aniline is so far the only horse that won the Prize of Europe three times.
The winner of 2012, Girolamo ( Dai Jin from the Golden Time ), ran with a time of 2:26:37, the fastest time in the history of this race. He surpassed this is also the 2400m track record of Oriental Tigers on the track of Cologne Weidenpesch.
