Prince Lorenz of Belgium, Archduke of Austria-Este

Lorenz Habsburg-Lothringen ( born December 16, 1955 in Boulogne- Billancourt, France) is a banker and, since 1995 Prince of Belgium. He comes from the sidelines Austria -Este the House of Habsburg.

Origin

Lawrence is the son of Robert of Austria -Este (1915-1996) and Margherita of Savoy -Aosta ( b. 1930 ), daughter of Amadeus, 3rd Duke of Aosta and Anne Marie Hélène d'Orléans from the house of Guise.

Father's side he is a grandson of the last Austrian Emperor and King of Hungary Charles I (1887-1922) and his wife Princess Zita of Bourbon- Parma ( 1892-1989 ).

His childhood was spent in France Lorenz. After graduating from high school there, he completed his military service in Austria and studied at the universities of St. Gallen ( Switzerland ) and Innsbruck ( Austria ), where he earned a diploma in economic and social sciences.

The professional activities of the prince are located mainly in the banking sector. From 1983 he worked as a manager at Bankhaus E. Gutzwiller & Cie. Bankers in Basel, where in 1990 he was managing partner. During this time his family lived in Basel. Since 1993 he lives with his family in Brussels. In 1993 he was a consultant with SWIFT and from 1995 he was Advisor to the Board at BNP Paribas in Paris. Until 2003 he was a board member of numerous companies, including in affiliates of the Suez group as SITA (a subsidiary is Sita Germany ) and Ondeo Nalco - (2003 sold by the Suez Group ). In 2007, he was Supervisory Board of UCB S. A. re-elected as an independent director and member of the board. In addition, he is still one of four unlimited liability shareholders of E. Gutzwiller & Cie. Bankers. and Chairman of the Board of operating in the distribution and sale of mutual fund subsidiary Gutzwiller Fonds Management AG.

Although he still works full-time, he represented the royal family among others at ceremonies and accompanied his wife on official duties abroad. Since 2004 he is honorary president of the " Royal Association of historic buildings in Belgium " ( Koninklijke Vereniging the Historic Woonsteden van België / Association Royale des Demeures Historiques de Belgique). Since 2005, he acts as patron of Europae thesauri, an association of ecclesiastical museums and treasuries.

Habsburg-Lothringen is an Austrian national and Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. In 1996 he took over after his father's death the title "Duke of Modena " and thus was family- internal head of the House of Austria- Este. As in Austria nobility were abolished, he bears the Habsburg title only in his capacity as Belgians, Austrians than his real name.

Marriage and descendants

On September 22, 1984, he married in Brussels, the Belgian Princess Astrid ( b. 1962 ), daughter of King Albert II of Belgium ( b. 1934 ) and his wife, Paola Ruffo di Calabria ( b. 1937 ).

The marriage produced five children:
