Prince Nicholas of Romania

Nicholas of Romania (* August 5, 1903 in Sinaia, † June 9, 1978 in Madrid ) was a Prince of Hohenzollern- Sigmaringen.

Life

Nicholas was born as the son of King Ferdinand I of Romania and Queen Mary on Peles Castle in Sinaia. His older brother was the future King Charles II

First, Nicholas was studying in Romania, in 1919, he attended lectures at the British Eton College. Since Charles had renounced the throne of Romania, in 1927, his son Michael I was new after the death of Ferdinand king. The underage Michael stood before a regency, who was also Nicholas.

After the return of Charles as the new king of Romania married Nicholas in 1931 Johanna Lucie Doletti, which is why he twice had to go into exile 1931-1933. Nicholas led a second marriage with Therese Figueira de Mello. From two marriages no children were born.

Nicholas was excluded from the royal family and went for the third time on the way into exile. Karl nevertheless allowed him to attend the funeral of Queen Mary. 1941 Nicholas received from the new King Michael by decree his rights back.

Nicholas died in 1978 in Madrid and was buried in Lausanne.
