Prince Sabahaddin

Prince Sabahaddin, صباح الدين / Sabah al- Dīn; ( Born February 13, 1879 in Istanbul, † June 30, 1948 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland ) was a Turkish thinker and politician from the house of Osman. In the field of sociology, he entered in the former Turkish territory.

The Ottoman Empire was at the turn of the century in a political crisis. Sabahaddins uncle Abdulhamid II had the Ottoman constitution in 1878 effectively repealed and the opposition was in exile in Paris. There have been several models to save the kingdom presents. So joined Prince Sabahaddin who fled to Paris in 1899, for decentralization ( عدم مركزيت / adem -i ʿ merkezīyet ) of the kingdom and for the introduction of Western standards in education and social life.

1908, the constitution was re-enacted and the second Ottoman constitutional period began. Back in Istanbul founded Prince Sabahaddin 1906, the Association of Private enterprise and decentralization ( Osm: Teşebbüs -i Şahsi ve Adem -i Merkeziyet Cemiyeti ). A year later he collected himself with the liberal wing of the Young Turks in the new Radical Party ( Osm: firka -ı Ahrar ), whose leader he became. But Prince Sabahaddin later fell out with the ruling Committee of Union and Progress, and so had to flee a second time abroad.

The Ottoman Empire entered 1914 in the First World War and was defeated. Then began the Turkish liberation war that ended in 1923 with the founding of the Republic of Turkey. The Sultan was deposed and exiled. As a member of the Sultan's family had Sabahaddin Prince, who had recently returned in 1924 to leave the country again. He died in 1948 in Neuchâtel, 1952, his body was transferred to Turkey and buried in Istanbul.

Prince Sabahaddin was married twice.

Relationship

He was born as the son of Sultan sister Seniha Sultan Mahmud Damad and Cemal Pasha Eddin. Since the succession went only through the male line, he was not a pretender to the throne despite its name Prince. Instead of a Şehzades so he was just a Sultanzade. He was a maternal grandson of Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I and the nephew of Murad V., Abdülhamids II, Mehmed V Mehmed VI as well .. Because of his political views he was banished from the house of Osman.
