Princess Adelheid-Marie of Anhalt-Dessau

Princess Marie Adelheid of Anhalt- Dessau ( born December 25, 1833 in Dessau, † November 24, 1916 at Schloss Königstein im Taunus) was the last by marriage Duchess of Nassau and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg since 1890.

Life

Adelheid Marie was the eldest daughter of Prince Frederick Augustus of Anhalt- Dessau and Princess Marie Louise Charlotte of Hesse- Kassel.

In 1851, after the early death of his first wife, she was the second wife of Duke Adolph of Nassau, the later Grand Duke of Luxembourg. From this marriage the following five children:

  • William IV (1852-1912), Grand Duke of Luxembourg
  • Friedrich ( born September 28 of 1854 † October 23, 1855 )
  • Marie ( * November 14, 1857, † December 28, 1857 )
  • Franz Joseph Wilhelm ( born January 30, 1859 † April 2, 1875 )
  • Hilda (1864-1952) ∞ Grand Duke Frederick II of Baden

Duchess Adelheid chose Königstein as their summer residence. Her husband gave her there in 1858, the Luxembourg Palace. In the village, she was highly regarded. The Adelaide street is named after her. Also named for her is the Duchess Adelheid pin, today's parish hall of the Protestant Church, to which Adelheid 1912 donated the land.
