Princess Amalia of Nassau-Dietz

Anna Charlotte Amalie of Nassau- Dietz - Orange ( born October 13, 1710 in Leeuwarden, † November 17, 1777 in Durlach ) was the wife of Crown Prince Friedrich of Baden -Durlach and mother of the first Grand Duke of Baden, Karl Friedrich von Baden.

Life

Her father was John William Friso of Nassau- Dietz - Orange, Stadtholder of the Dutch province of Friesland, her mother was Marie Louise of Hesse -Kassel. The marriage to Friedrich took place in 1727.

Because of its many tantrums it was rumored at the court of Durlach that she was mentally ill. During her pregnancy she tyrannized their servants. As further evidence of their alleged mental illness, the fact is used to show that they did not shed a tear at the sight of her dead husband († March 26, 1732 ); you said she was not there mentally.

Her father, Karl Wilhelm of Baden- Durlach did not want the mother took influence on the new Hereditary Prince Karl Friedrich. Although lived son and mother continue in the Durlacher Karlburg, but Anna Charlotte was shielded the rest of their life from the outside world in a different apartment in the Karlburg. The education of their two sons, Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig and took over their puritanical mother Magdalena Wilhelmine of Württemberg.
