Princess Augusta Wilhelmine of Hesse-Darmstadt

Auguste Wilhelmine Marie of Hesse- Darmstadt ( born April 14, 1765 in Darmstadt, † March 30, 1796 in Rohrbach ) was by marriage Duchess of Palatinate -Zweibrücken.

Life

Auguste Wilhelmine was a daughter of Prince Georg Wilhelm of Hesse- Darmstadt (1722-1782) from his marriage to Louise (1729-1818), daughter of Count Christian Karl Reinhard of Leiningen- Dabo. The princess was very carefully educated primarily by her mother, was also being taken to convey Auguste civic virtues.

On September 30, 1785 married Auguste Wilhelmine in Darmstadt Count Palatine Maximilian Joseph of Zweibrücken ( 1756-1825 ). The couple lived mainly in Strasbourg, from where it first had to Darmstadt and eventually flee to Mannheim before the French Revolution. In Mannheim, the family lived in very modest circumstances. The Elector of Bavaria had denied the family 's exile in Bavaria. Auguste's husband was after the death of his brother in 1795 nominally Duke of Palatinate -Zweibrücken, but was occupied the country French. After riots broke out in Mannheim, Auguste fled with her family to Ansbach. The Duchess died, at last, weakened by the escapes and five births in Castle Rohrbach near Heidelberg, in pulmonary tuberculosis.
