Princess Casimire of Anhalt-Dessau

Kasimire of Anhalt- Dessau ( born January 19, 1749 Dessau, † November 8, 1778 in Detmold ) was a princess of Anhalt- Dessau and by marriage Princess of Lippe -Detmold.

Life

Kasimire was a daughter of Prince Leopold II of Anhalt -Dessau (1700-1751) from his marriage with Gisela Agnes (1722-1751), daughter of Prince Leopold of Anhalt- Köthen. A particularly close relationship she had with her sister Maria Leopoldine, married Countess of Lippe, and Agnese, with which they usually lived after her marriage together and separation led an extensive correspondence.

She married on 9 November 1769 in Dessau Count Simon August of Lippe -Detmold ( 1727-1782 ), Widower of their deceased in April of the year marriage sister Maria Leopoldine. Religious tolerance and social activist, she was informed in administrative matters. Without interfering in the current affairs, she planned many reforms in lip, some of which she also was able to have them executed. She had significant influence on her husband and thus became the mainstay of the reforms sought by Chancellor Bernhard Ferdinand Hoffmann, who, however, knew the temperament to moderate Kasimires. It formed commissions from pastors, doctors and administration officials who should advise on the poor and sick care and education. The poor were to beg rather than, for example, pursue a useful employment. Sick, infirm and old people received assistance from the arms Fund as adopting a poor order. On their own initiative, a Medizinalordnung 1789 was enacted, which constitutes the beginning of an organized public health. Further reform efforts Kasimires concerned serfdom, the replacement of the corvée, the meanness division and the change in the cultivation of crops. However, their reform efforts against numerous forms of resistance were only partially successful. In 1775, she founded the " Patriotic Society " one of the oldest rural credit institutions in Germany. She planned under the influence of Johann Bernhard Basedow and Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow a reorganization of the school system and the establishment of Lippe teacher seminar. Her daughter, Princess Pauline of Lippe (1769-1820) should successfully continue later, the reform work begun.
