Princess Leopoldine of Baden

Leopoldine, Princess of Baden, full name Princess Leopoldine Wilhelmine Pauline Amalie Maximiliane of Baden ( born February 22, 1837 in Karlsruhe, † December 23, 1903 in Strasbourg ) was by marriage, Princess of Hohenlohe -Langenburg.

Biography

Leopoldine was the fourth and youngest daughter of Margrave William of Baden (1792-1859) and his wife Princess Elisabeth of Württemberg (1802-1864), daughter of Duke Ludwig Friedrich of Württemberg. Their paternal grandparents were Karl Friedrich von Baden, the first Grand Duke of Baden, and his second wife, Baroness Luise Karoline Geyer of Geyer Berg, Countess of Hochberg. She grew up with her two older sisters, Sophie (1834-1904) and Elizabeth (1835-1891), in Karlsruhe.

On September 24, 1862 married Princess Leopoldine in Karlsruhe Prince Hermann zu Hohenlohe -Langenburg ( 1832-1913 ), second son of Prince Ernst I of Hohenlohe- Langenburg and Princess Feodora of Leiningen. The marriage produced three children:

  • Ernst Wilhelm Friedrich Karl Maximilian (1863-1950) ∞ 1896 Princess Alexandra of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha ( 1878-1942 )
  • Elise (1864-1929) ∞ 1884 Prince Heinrich XXVII. Reuss younger line (1858-1928)
  • Feodora (1866-1932) ∞ 1894 Prince Emich of Leiningen ( 1866-1939 )

Princess Leopoldine founded the " Leopoldinen Club " and in Strasbourg, where her husband was appointed as governor of Alsace- Lorraine, she took mainly representative functions. She died a day before Christmas Eve in 1903 after a long illness and was buried in the family cemetery in Langenburg.

She was honored in 1871 by awarding the Olga Order.
