Princess Maria of Greece and Denmark

Princess Maria of Greece and Denmark (born 20 Februarjul / March 3 1876greg in Athens, .. † December 14, 1940 in Athens ) was a member of the house Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg by marriage and was Grand Duchess Maria Georgievna Romanov.

Life

Mary was the daughter of the Greek King George I (1845-1913) and his wife Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna Romanova (1851-1926), daughter of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich Romanov and Princess Alexandra of Saxe- Altenburg. And sister of the future King Constantine I of Greece.

On April 30, 1900 married Princess Maria of Greece and Denmark on Corfu Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich Romanov ( 1863-1919 ), son of Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich Romanov and his wife Princess Cecilia of Baden. From the marriage were two daughters, Nina Georgievna (1901-1974) and Xenia Georgievna (1903-1965), out. Her husband was murdered in 1919 by the Bolsheviks.

His second wife, married Grand Duchess Maria on December 16, 1922 in Wiesbaden Greek Admiral Perikles Ioannidis ( 1881-1965 ). The marriage remained childless.
