Viktoria Adelheid was the eldest daughter of Duke Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg (1855-1934) and his wife Princess Caroline Mathilde of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- August Castle (1860-1932), daughter of Duke Frederick VIII of Schleswig -Holstein and Princess Adelheid of Hohenlohe- Langenburg Victoria.
