Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine
Princess Victoria Alberta Elisabeth Mathilde Marie of Hesse- Darmstadt VA ( born April 5, 1863 in Windsor Castle, † September 24, 1950 in London) was by marriage Princess of Battenberg, later Marchioness of Milford Haven.
Life
Viktoria Alberta was the first child of the penultimate Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse and his wife Princess Alice. Victoria was the granddaughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland, on the other hand, the maternal grandmother of Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, prince consort of Queen Elizabeth II
On April 30, 1884 in Darmstadt married Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg, who changed his name to Louis Mountbatten in 1917 and was elevated to the Marquess of Milford Haven.
After her death in Kensington Palace she was buried in the crypt of St. Mildred's Church in Whippingham on the Isle of Wight.
