Semaprochilodus sp.

The Barbensalmler ( Prochilodontidae ) live with 21 to 22 species in three genera in the larger rivers of South America. They have an elongated, laterally flattened, high-backed often bulky body with a single dorsal fin, a dorsal fin and a deeply forked tail fin. Barbensalmler be 24-61 inches long. They are mostly of silvery or gray color, her back, anal and caudal fin banded with dark longitudinal stripes. Juveniles are often much more colorful than the adult animals.

The mouth is wide vorstreckbar. On the lips they have two rows of very small, spade -like or comb-like teeth. In prestretched mouth a dentate oral disc, be scraped off with the plants, detritus and algae and microorganisms from solid surfaces forms.

Barbensalmler pull to spawn in large schools in the headwaters of the rivers and release their gametes in pairs to aquatic plants from.

On the spawning migrations in their home " Boca Chico " (lower jaws ) are called fish caught as a popular food fish.
