Progressive Party (Israel)

The Miflaga Progresivit (Hebrew מפלגה פרוגרסיבית, German Progressive Party, Eng. Progressive Party ) was a liberal political party in Israel. It existed from 1948 until 1961.

The party was founded in 1948. The party founders came largely from the ranks of the parties Aliyah Chadasha and Haoved HaTzioni that were active before the establishment of the Israeli state. Like their founder, the new party representing mainly immigrants from Central Europe. The Miflaga Progresivit in 1949 elected to the Constituent Assembly, from which then the first Knesset was. The party was the first legislative period ( 1949-1951 ) represented until the 4th legislative period ( 1959-1961 ) in the Knesset. During this period, she was repeatedly involved in the government. Towards the end of the 4th Knesset they united with the party Tzionim Klaliym ( General Zionists ) to Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit (Liberal Party).

Party chairman was Pinchas Rosen, who was also one of the founders of the party. During the various government holdings of Miflaga Progresivit roses took each exercise the office of Minister of Justice.

On 8 May 1961, the Miflaga Progresivit disbanded. The newly formed Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit went later in Gachal - election coalition with the conservative Herut together, from which finally the Likud was.
