Promenade plantée

The trains on this inner-city railway line was discontinued in 1965, In 1984 the demolition of the associated railway station, the Gare de la Bastille. In its place, the Opéra Bastille was built. From 1993, it was converted to the elevated railway to the green pedestrian promenade. The access is located south of the Opera at the Avenue Daumesnil ( stairs). The boardwalk allows, in the countryside walk from the Bastille to get almost to the Bois de Vincennes. About half of the path is formed from the Viaduc des Arts, where the path runs along the viaduct, a former elevated railway. In the course of the route is integrated into modern residential architecture, and you can even pass through a short tunnel.

The promenade plantée was the first elevated railway line that was transformed into a public green space. They became the model of many similar projects, such as the High Line opened in 2009 in New York City. Similar projects exist in Saint Louis ( Missouri), Philadelphia, Jersey City, Chicago, and Rotterdam. Even in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, a similar promenade was created.
