Propellerhead Software

Propellerhead Software is a manufacturer of music software with headquarters in Stockholm (Sweden). The company was founded in 1994 and made a name for himself mainly by the studio emulation Reason.

History

Propellerhead Software was founded in 1994 by Ernst Nathorst - Böös, Marcus Zetterquist and Pelle jubilation which hold still significant positions in the company. The first software developed was the program ReCycle, a tool for processing loops that could change, among others, the pace of a loop, without the pitch was impaired. As an export medium Propellerheads served own REX format.

In 1997, the company issued the program ReBirth RB -338, a step- based, programmable sequencer that classic Roland instruments that are often associated with techno, emulating: 2 TB -303 Bassline synthesizer and drum machine TR- 808. As of version 2, the TR -909 drum machine was added additionally. It was welcomed as affordable alternative to the old, unreliable hardware devices. Roland Corporation asked that a note on the ReBirth packages and was added to the Home screen; the unofficial notice was for marketing boost for Propellerhead and has maintained a close relationship with Roland.

ReWire was jointly developed by Propellerhead and Steinberg for use with the Cubase sequencer. It was published in 1998 and offers a virtual audio and a synchronization connection between Cubase and Rebirth. In January 1999, the protocol for royalty-free use by third -party software was released. This ensures that communication between different sequencers should be enabled.

Propellerhead focused soon on their new product, Reason, published in 2000. Reason is a complete studio emulation with virtual wires, multiple synthesizers, samplers, drum machine, a function to play back REX Loops, a pattern sequencer and a wide variety of effects units. But especially attractive is the ability of Reason, to be able to create as many devices such as your computer can handle, as well as the simple sequencer for automation of notes and devices. In addition, the power requirements are so small that Reason can also be performed on the average computers.

Since September 2009, Propellerheads Record is the latest software on the market, and has been integrated in appear in Reason 6.

Use of the Internet

Early Propellerhead used the Internet both as a marketing tool as well as an opportunity to come into contact with the users. An alpha version of ReBirth was offered in 1996 as a free download on the Propellerhead website, the company even looked on the internet for active users of the TB- 303 and sent this e- mail so that they try out the new software.

The user forum has a great importance in the Propellerhead community. Many employees check it every day. The fact that it was allowing the user community to ask questions and suggestions directly to the developers, was released the first downloadable ReBirth update in 1997 and now registered users of Propellerhead software can still download updates and additional content online.
