Propylhexedrine (also Hexahydrodesoxyephedrin ) is a central nervous stimulant that is marketed in the U.S. as Benzedrex Inhaler. Propylhexedrine is structurally related to methamphetamine. It is mainly used for the symptomatic treatment of nasal discharge associated with colds and allergies.
Synthesis
Propylhexedrine can be prepared by ring hydrogenation of methamphetamine in the presence of platinum ( IV) oxide as a catalyst. A enantiomers are using L-( )- tartaric acid.
