Protos (train)

The PROTOS is a low-floor train set for regional services with a maximum speed of 160 km / h It was developed and built by the FTD vehicle technology Dessau. The electrical equipment was supplied by Vossloh Kiepe, Dusseldorf.

The platform allows single and multi- unit vehicles, each car has as standard a self-contained power module and a powered bogie. Through this independence wagons with different drive types and thus hybrid solutions can be realized. Furthermore, as a constant top speed and acceleration is ensured, regardless of the number of wagons. A multiple unit is possible. The vehicle concept allows a subsequent change of the interior. The low-floor area covers about 60% of total use area for passengers. The Protos corresponds to the prEN 15227 standard for collision safety.

Since 23 September 2007, the Dutch transport company Connexxion uses five 2-piece electric trains of the PROTOS between Ede - Wageningen and Amersfoort ( NL) a.
