Prudentópolis is a city ( officially: Municipio de Prudentópolis ) of the Brazilian state of Paraná. It has to be according to the census of 2010, around 48,800 inhabitants, the Prudentopolitaner (Portuguese prudentopolitano ) called.

Geography

Prudentópolis is located in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná in the leading to Paraguay National Highway BR -373 ( linking with the BR -277 in the south of the municipality ) is about 200 km west of Curitiba, capital of Paraná. It is located in the mesoregion Sudeste Paranaense.

The area is hilly; in it are dozens of waterfalls.

History

End of the 19th century included the lands of today's Prudentópolis Dr. Cândido Ferreira de Abreu, who promoted the colonization. In 1896 were 1,500 Ukrainian families for settlement, attracted a total of 8,000 settlers. The settlers were settled in various villages where they lived as farmers, ranchers and artisans. The municipality ( município ) was incorporated in 1906 and was named in honor of the President Prudentópolis Prudente de Morais (President of Brazil from 1894 to 1898 ). The immigration of Ukrainians after Prudentópolis continued until the mid-1920s. Prudentópolis is now regarded as the most important Ukrainian settlement in Brazil, more than 80 % of the population are descendants of Ukrainians.

Attractions

Prudentópolis is characterized mainly by the surrounding nature it. The municipal area there are more than 100 recognized waterfalls, several of them more than a hundred feet high. The highest is the Salto São Francisco with 196 meters height. The importance of tourism in the city and the city's importance within the tourism in Paraná is steadily increasing. The Ukrainian -born population in Brazil holds many unusual customs upright, including the folk dance group Vesselka, and organizes typical Ukrainian festivals such as the Ukrainian Night ( Noite Ucraniana ) and the Kozia Festyvalh ( kid - proof).
