Prunus caroliniana is a species of the genus Prunus.

Feature

Prunus caroliniana is reached, a tree, the plant height of about 10 meters. The leaves are oblong - lanceolate, slightly serrated to entire, acuminate, leathery, glossy and evergreen.

The flowers are arranged in 3 to 4 centimeters long racemes. They are creamy white and short-stalked. The flower cup is bell-shaped.

The black when ripe stone fruit is ovate - roundish, with a diameter of 10 millimeters. The stone core is smooth.

The flowering period extends from March to April.

Occurrence

Prunus caroliniana occurs in southern North America.

Use

Prunus caroliniana is used in Central Europe only on very sheltered locations such as the Isle of Mainau and South Tyrol as an ornamental plant.
